Software Maintenance

Keep your business software secure, stable and improving.

Business applications need regular care to stay secure and reliable. We maintain custom software, whether we built it or not, with monitoring, updates, fixes and continued improvement.

What software maintenance involves

Every application depends on frameworks, libraries and services that change. Security vulnerabilities are discovered, APIs are updated and hosting platforms retire old versions. Software that is not maintained becomes harder and more expensive to fix the longer it is left.

Our maintenance covers monitoring for errors and downtime, regular dependency and security updates, bug fixes, performance optimisation and keeping integrations working. We keep clear records of what has changed and why.

Maintenance can include an allowance for small improvements and new features, so your software keeps pace with your business rather than standing still until the next big project.

Maintenance arrangements are scaled to how critical the software is. A simple internal tool might need a monthly check and quarterly updates; a booking platform customers rely on every day warrants continuous monitoring, faster response and regular performance reviews. We agree the right level with you and put it in writing.

Problems we solve

Sound familiar?

  • Unpatched vulnerabilities

Outdated dependencies with known security issues.

  • Errors nobody sees

Users hit bugs that are never reported or fixed.

  • A system nobody understands

The original developer has gone and documentation is thin.

  • Slowing performance

The application gets slower as data grows.

Benefits

What you get

  • SecurityRegular updates reduce risk from known vulnerabilities.
  • StabilityErrors are caught and fixed promptly.
  • ContinuityDocumentation and knowledge that do not depend on one person.
  • Steady improvementSmall enhancements delivered regularly.

Typical deliverables

Every project is scoped individually. These are the elements most often included.

  • Code and infrastructure review
  • Error and uptime monitoring
  • Security and dependency updates
  • Bug fixes
  • Performance optimisation
  • Integration maintenance
  • Backups and restore testing
  • Feature improvements
  • Change log and documentation

Examples of what this looks like

Inherited application

Taking over support for software built by a previous developer.

Framework upgrade

Moving an application to a supported version of its framework.

Performance work

Speeding up slow reports and database queries.

Integration fixes

Updating integrations when a third-party API changes.

Who it's for

  • Businesses with custom software in daily use
  • Applications built by a previous supplier
  • Systems with ageing dependencies
  • Software products with active users

Process

How we work

  1. 01

    Review

We look at what you have, how it is hosted and what condition it is in, and tell you honestly what needs attention.

  2. 02

    Onboard

Access, backups, monitoring and documentation are set up so nothing depends on guesswork.

  3. 03

    Maintain

Updates, security patches and small changes are handled on a regular schedule.

  4. 04

    Respond

When something breaks or needs changing, you have one place to ask and a clear record of what was done.

  5. 05

    Improve

We suggest improvements when they are worth making, and quote them separately where they are larger pieces of work.

FAQs

Common questions

More answers on our FAQ page, or ask us directly.

Will you maintain software you did not build?

Usually, yes, after a code and infrastructure review. Occasionally the review shows that modernisation is a better investment, and we will explain why.

What technology can you support?

We are strongest with modern JavaScript and TypeScript web applications, and can support many other web technologies. We will be honest if something falls outside our expertise.

How is maintenance priced?

Usually as a monthly arrangement based on the size, complexity and criticality of the software. Larger features are quoted separately.

Do you offer out-of-hours support?

Only where explicitly agreed in a support arrangement.
