Our approach
Understand the business first. Then build the right thing, properly.
Most digital projects that disappoint do so for the same reasons: unclear goals, scope that drifts, poor communication and shortcuts in testing. Our approach is designed to avoid all four.
Principles
Four things that shape every project
Start with the problem
Before discussing technology, we want to understand what's costing you time, money or customers, and what success would look like.
Choose the simplest thing that works
Sometimes that's an off-the-shelf tool configured well. Sometimes it's bespoke software. We'll explain the trade-offs either way.
Deliver in useful steps
Larger projects are phased so you get value early, can give feedback on working software and keep control of the budget.
Plan for life after launch
Hosting, maintenance, documentation and handover are planned from the start, not bolted on at the end.
Websites, software & systems
From discovery to long-term support
The same seven stages apply whether we're building a business website or a customer portal. The depth of each stage scales with the project.
- 01
Discovery
We learn how your business works, who your customers are and what the project needs to achieve. No jargon, no obligation.
- 02
Planning
We agree scope, priorities, content and timescales in writing, so you know exactly what is being built and what it costs.
- 03
Design
Layouts and interfaces are designed around your customers and your brand, then reviewed with you before development starts.
- 04
Development
We build with modern, maintainable technology, sharing progress as we go rather than disappearing for weeks.
- 05
Testing
Every form, payment, integration and page is tested across devices and browsers, including accessibility and performance checks.
- 06
Launch
We handle hosting, domains, SSL and redirects, and make sure search engines can find the new site or system properly.
- 07
Support
After launch you can keep us on for hosting, maintenance and improvements, or take it in-house. It is your choice.
Marketing
A measured cycle, not a one-off launch
Marketing improves through testing and adjustment. We set up tracking first so every decision is based on evidence.
- 01
Audit
We review your website, search visibility, existing campaigns and tracking to understand where you are starting from.
- 02
Strategy
We agree goals, audiences, channels and a realistic budget, focused on enquiries and sales rather than vanity metrics.
- 03
Set-up
Tracking, landing pages, campaigns and content are prepared and checked before any budget is spent.
- 04
Launch
Campaigns and content go live in a controlled way, so early results can be read properly.
- 05
Measure
We report in plain English on what is working, what is not and what it is costing per enquiry.
- 06
Improve
Budget, targeting, content and pages are adjusted based on evidence, month by month.
Support
Support that starts with understanding what you have
Whether we built it or not, we review your systems before agreeing what ongoing support should cover.
- 01
Review
We look at what you have, how it is hosted and what condition it is in, and tell you honestly what needs attention.
- 02
Onboard
Access, backups, monitoring and documentation are set up so nothing depends on guesswork.
- 03
Maintain
Updates, security patches and small changes are handled on a regular schedule.
- 04
Respond
When something breaks or needs changing, you have one place to ask and a clear record of what was done.
- 05
Improve
We suggest improvements when they are worth making, and quote them separately where they are larger pieces of work.
Scope & quotes
How we scope and quote
After an initial conversation, we write down what we understand you need: goals, users, features, integrations, content and anything out of scope. You check it, we refine it, and only then do we quote.
For larger software projects we may suggest a short paid discovery phase first. It produces a clear specification and prototype you own, whether or not you continue with us.
Quotes state what's included, what isn't, any third-party costs (such as hosting, licences or advertising spend), payment stages and ownership terms. There's never an obligation to proceed.
Quality standards
What's built in, by default
Accessibility
Designed and tested against WCAG 2.2 AA principles: keyboard access, contrast, structure and readable content.
Performance
Server-rendered pages, optimised images and minimal JavaScript for fast loading on mobile networks.
Security
Server-side validation, secure authentication, least-privilege access, security headers and dependency updates.
Your ownership
Domains, accounts and data stay in your name. Ownership of what we build is set out clearly in each agreement.
Maintainability
Clean, documented code using well-supported technology, so the system isn't dependent on one person.
Documentation
Handover notes covering hosting, configuration, admin tasks and how to get help.
Let's talk about what your business needs.
Whether it's a simple website or a complex business system, tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll recommend the right approach. No jargon, no obligation.
